Our Early Spring Golfers Were Blessed Yet Again!
On April 10, 2013, we celebrated
our 9th Annual Saint Mark's Spring Golf Outing on the earliest start date ever for the second year in a row! Leaving
behind the chilling effects of a record-setting winter, we once again forced Mother Nature to accept us well ahead of schedule
by actually golfing on the first day our host course was allowed to be opened for the season! We were doubly-blessed
by also having been guided to reserve the only daylight hours available during the first full week in April when it didn't
rain ... or snow! In keeping with our hearty New England weather, it was still cold enough out there to find the white
stuff covering several areas of the golf course!
Including several last-minute entrants, our group experienced a better-than-expected, almost-near-record
attendance! Our four-golfer scramble results marked the first time that not one team turned in a final 18-hole score
over par! The best closest-to-the-pin winning shot settled to within 2 feet 8 inches of the flagstick! There weren't
many "lost balls found" worth keeping because it was opening day for the course; we still contributed our fair share of balls
to the woodland creatures. Some fairways were so saturated and mushy that some masterfully-hit balls were still found
two inches below the ground surface stuck in their self-made tunnels!
After lunch in the clubhouse, all golfers received sleeves of golf
balls containing the inspirational words "Seek And You Will Find Me" as well as coffee mugs labeled "Saint Mark's Golf Practice
Mug (turn on side prior to putting)". The golfers' collective goodness again resulted in a generous group donation to
Saint Mark's at the end of the day! A YouTube video highlighting still photos from the day may be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2eu_Mu9FdU

"All Is Somewhat Forgiven"
Golf Outing
Thank
you to all the Saint Mark’s golfers who, on October 16, 2013, descended upon Templewood GC for our "All Is Somewhat
Forgiven" outing. Our thundering horde of fifteen enjoyed some of our best individual scores in years based on the fact
that we decided to ignore just about every golf rule in existence. Mulligan "do-overs" and preferred lies were allowed
just about everywhere; we had free drops out of water and sandtraps and from behind trees as well as for lost balls; there
were automatic "gimme" putts and no penalty strokes; and nothing was out-of-bounds! One foursome took our "no rules"
philosophy to the extreme by totally ignoring our outing format and golfed within their own arrangement! Nearly every
golfer won at least one of the 28 closest-to-the-pin or long-drive prizes available. Not surprisingly, the overall combined
end-of-day golfer donations for Saint Mark's was actually greater than the entire entry fee prize fund for the outing!
